Partnership

Working Together

Our aim is for every child to achieve their full potential. We help our pupils to acquire the necessary skills for their future educational development, whilst also enjoying and gaining satisfaction from everything they do with us.

We have a very strong partnership with parents and good communications with parents mean that children are well supported.

How Partnership Works

We are pleased to welcome prospective parents to the school and show them around.

* All parents and children visit the school prior to admission.
* Newsletters are sent home regularly.
* You are encouraged to help in school and share your skills with the children.
* We encourage you to share reading books with your child daily and to help with other work when appropriate.
* We hold open days, consultation evenings and educational workshops.
* The Headteacher and staff are always happy to make appointments to see parents to discuss any aspect of school life.
* All parents are members of the Parent Teacher Association. We have an active PTA who arrange a wide variety of social and fund raising activities during the course of the year.

Discipline

We encourage our children to respect each other and to be sensitive and supportive of each other’s feelings. Our children’s very good behaviour in class and around the school is a strength (Ofsted). Good behaviour is praised and rewarded. If a child’s behaviour gives cause for concern the headteacher invites the parents to discuss the problem at an early stage to find the most effective way forward by working together. We have a very positive ethos in our school.

Recording and Reporting

We keep careful records of children’s progress through the school. During and at the end of the Reception Class year all children undergo nationally agreed Foundation stage assessment; during Year 1, they are assessed; and at the end of Year 2 they take part in Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) to ascertain their progress. During their time with us, regular assessments are carried out in all curriculum areas. These are reported to you in an annual written report and during termly consultation evenings for parents. Regular examples of pupils’ work are entered into their own personal assessment folders. These help teachers to plan the next stages of learning.

Health

Each child is offered a medical examination and dental examinations during the course of their school career. Medicines cannot be administered by school staff except in exceptional circumstances e.g. asthma. Parents are requested not to send their child to school if they are unwell. If they are fit but still on medication parents may come into school to administer it themselves. Children need 24hours at home to recover from any sickness and diarrhoea.
